The eighth workshop within the Component 5, output 5.3. – Curriculum revision for the project “For a Literate Croatia – the way to a desirable future, Decade of Literacy (2003 – 2012)” took place.

The eighth workshop within the Component 5, output 5.3.: “Framework curriculum for basic adult education” of the CARDS 2004 Adult learning project took place in the Palace Hotel in Zagreb from 26 to 29 January 2009.

It was held by long-term expert Robert Blum and Nevenka Lončarić-Jelačić as a moderator from the Education and Teacher Training Agency, who is experienced in this area.

17 people participated in the workshop and through their work they greatly contributed to the successful realization of the workshop.

New participants were informed about the CARDS 2004 project through components.

The situation of the revision of the curriculum for the Literacy project, which has started in 2003, was presented at the beginning of the workshop. Work plan for the completion of the framework curriculum for basic adult education has also been developed.

Goals of the workshop were:

  1. to finalize framework curriculum for basic adult education (to verify goals and competences that the participants will gain by subject areas).
  2. to define methodology and strategies for evaluation and assessment of entrance competences and learning outcomes
  3. to define mobility towards labour market training programmes

The following results have been achieved through the activities at the workshop:

  • information gaps, weaknesses of norms, methodologies and procedures used in the provision of the MoSES’ basic skills programme for adults have been identified
  • developed examples for a modular approach to the curriculum focused on the successful implementation of evaluation and assessment of the existing competences, basic abilities and participants’ potentials and interests
  • comments and proposals integrated into the framework proposal for curriculum revision
  • finalized approaches and aspects of the implementation of the curriculum for basic adult education
  • proposal for the improvement of public and private training providers was outlined in order for the programme implementation to be as flexible as possible.

A visit to the Open University Koprivnica is scheduled for February for the purpose of monitoring the implementation of the basic adult education project.
