First workshop within the Component 1: „The establishment of data and information base“ of the CARDS 2004 Adult learning project took place
The first workshop within the Component 1: “The establishment of data and information base” of the CARDS 2004 Adult learning project was held in Zagreb on 4 and 5 March 2008 in Dubrovnik Hotel.

Primary objectives of the Component 1 are the development of the methodology for data collection in adult learning in order to establish the database on programmes, providers and qualifications on offer, as well as in order to collect data on participants in adult learning with a view to ensure comprehensive policy analysis and information decision-making, and to better inform the end-beneficiaries and general public. In addition to that, one of the objectives is to create a concept for non-public and public online availability, as well as the corresponding elements necessary for the sustainability of the database.

The workshop was held by Eddie White, expert on methodology for data collection in adult learning, and by Igor Lulić, expert on database.

This workshop was the first activity within the output 1.1, whose goal is to develop methodology for data collection. On the first day of the workshop, the representatives of the Agency for Vocational Education and Training, Central Bureau of Statistics and the Agency for Adult Education presented their activities, and Mr. Eddie White presented experiences in adult education in Scotland. The list of the desired data (institutions, programmes, participants, employees and financing of formal and partly non-formal education) and possible sources of these data was defined. On the second day of the workshop, potential users of the database were defined, as well as the data which will be available to them and the scope of the pilot project.

At the end of the workshop, a smaller working group was established, which will collect and bring together the list of institutions that offer adult education programmes.

The next workshop has been announced to take place by the end of March 2008.
